Mental health is a topic that has grown in awareness in the last year or so. People are talking more, which is nothing but a good thing. It’s meant that, for me, I have a greater awareness of my own issues, a greater understanding of how my mind is working and why, and a greater understanding of the ways I can help myself.
The internet is a powerful for connecting people, and ideas. It DOES NOT replace professional help.
Mental health is such a wide topic, that it’s almost impossible to give a full overview in this first post. I want to add my voice to those who are making others feel less alone. Yet it’s hard to find the balance between keeping my life private and also being open about my struggles.
So in this series, I’ll be talking about mental health conditions, and how they affect me (if they do), how they can affect others, about treatments, and also topical things that come up in the news.
One important point I want to make is that mental health isn’t just about illnesses, it’s about how we all feel, whether diagnosed with anything or not. We all have mental health, just some of us have mental illness too.
